CHILDREN ARE MIRRORS

Children listen and pay attention to every interaction about and with them. If these interactions are negative or are perceived as negative, this is what they begin to believe about themselves.
In the play therapy relationship, the play therapist works in a non-judgmental way with and towards the child, regardless of their externalised behaviour. The child feels accepted and liked for who they are.
Subsequently, they begin to internalise the thoughts, feelings and views of the therapist regarding them as a person and their self-esteem improves.
